On this day sister goes to brother's house with a Rakhi meaning a thread which was traditionally made from red, golden treads and pure sandalwood piece with some carving done on it and ties on the brother's wrist.
Then he is given sweet to eat and both of them have lunch together. In return of the rakhi the brother gave a gift or cash money is given to his sister and promise to be with her throughout her life and protect her whenever she is in trouble.
The traditional types of rachis are still available but now a day's rakhis with cartoon pictures on it or rachis made out of beads and many more fancy types of rachis are available in market. The price of these rakhi does vary from rupee's five to any amount you want them to go.
Many sister tie rakhis made out of real gold. It's all the love that matters on this day. This is the day to celebrate the amazing bond that a brother and sister celebrate.
On this day sister prays to God to save her brother from all the problems and shower him with success and prosperity. Rakhi vendors are seen all over Delhi, in every nook and corner of the city. The amount of sweets that are made on this day increase in numbers than the normal day production and so does its sale increase. This is very special day for everybody.
At the end of the day the promise that both brother and sister make silently to each other are followed and they eagerly look forward to the next year when again they will live this special bond together. |
