On his birthday there are no grand celebrations as Jainism does not permit the use of flowers and crackers and any kind of decorations which harm the other living creatures.
On this day everybody gathers in the community hall known as ‘sthanak’ were the gurus who have learnt from teachings of Lord Mahavir give away this knowledge to everybody present in the form of speeches. Small children also perform skits which depict various incidences of Lord's life and the various leasons that we should learn from them. After all the speeches and skits are over food is given to everybody.
Donations are done on this day in favor of all the animals that have no one to look after them. Free medicines and medical help is given to the people who cannot afford the expensive treatments which are continued to be given to them even after this day.
Lord Mahavir teachings were very simple to understand and all of them a proper reasoning to support them. He never said anything with blind faith on it and preached the same to everybody.
He always taught that one should never ask others to do things which they themselves would never think of doing. Even thought the population of Jain's in Delhi is not much, the little number of people who are present there celebrates this day with immense belief in God and with great devotion which is worth appreciating.
This day is of great importance to Jain's because today is the day Lord Mahavir who was detached from all the worldly pleasures and attained enlightenment at the age of eighty was born who gave the world a right path to walk on and life a life worth appreciating. |
