Hindu Festival Holi, Delhi

Holi

Colors here and colors there, is all what we can see on this day. This is the day of Holi, the festivals of colors. Holi falls in the month of March.

Actually it is Rang panchami that we celebrate with colors.

The night prior to Rang panchami a bonfire is lit and prayers are offered to the Fire God.

People walk in circular path around the bonfire and pray for the well being of their family members.

The next day is the time for fun. Colors, balloons, water are all around. People specially wear plain white colored clothes so that people can see the way they are colored.

Traditionally only gulal which is red in colour was used that too only to make a tilak on the forehead, but now a days we get different colors and balloons filled with different water colors are thrown at people. Then bhang is served to everyone around. Bhang is a special drink prepared specially for Holi only.

Schools, colleges, work places everything is shut on this day. In Delhi people are seen all over the streets dancing happily and playing Holi in their own very world.

In the same colored clothes children play and dance. Even the elder people become children on this day. As the day ends everybody tired return to their abode take bath and refresh themselves.

All relatives are invited and then a small get together is held. After dinner everybody gather and express how much they are waiting for next Holi to arrive so that everyone can be together again.

This festival makes everyone come close to each other and love and brotherhood is spread in spread in everyone's heart. Missing this day means missing something really spectacular in life. This festival should be celebrated by everyone at least once in their life.
