Diwali Hindu Festival, Delhi

Diwali

Diwali is one of the most important festivals of Hindus and is celebrated grandly.

This festival of Diwali last for about five days which are known as Dhantrayodashi, Narakchaturdashi, Laxmipujan Bali Pratipada, and Bhaubij.

On Dhantrayodashi that is the first day, "Dhan" which is known as wealth in hindi and; "Trayodashi” which is the thirteenth Day is considered to be an ideal day,

when people of all the houses clean the dust of the house from the entrances of their respective houses with different colored powder.

People indulge in making different beautiful designs and augment the entrances and welcome people wholeheartedly.

Houses are lit up with different colored lightning, most of the houses also hang lanterns and different kind of lamps that are so attractive and lighten up the entire home. Women cosset in preparation of different kind of sweets and other delicacies. 

A lot of diyas are also lit up in a straight line outside the house or on the railing of the balcony. The entire atmosphere and setting seems breathtaking and it certainly gives the feeling of Diwali which is also known as the festival of lights.

People also buy new utensil for the home. Kids are really excited about buying and bursting crackers. Everybody is seen wearing new traditional clothes and going out for dinner and wishing everyone “happy Diwali”. Earthen diyas and a hatri which is a miniature house-like formation made of mire, and a small statue of Lakshmiji is placed In the center of this structure is put up in homes.

They are one of the most essential items included for Diwali pooja and this pooja is only conducted after all the members of the family are home. It is a strong belief that Lakshmiji, the goddess of wealth visits one and all during Diwali; therefore she must also be excitement over.
