The holy book is then given a bath with water and milk. After certain ceremonies the Guru Granth Sahib is placed on the throne where it actually belongs.
Then langars take place meaning lunch is served to all the devotees coming to the temple. The holy water known as ‘Ámrit’ is distributed among the devotees.
It is said that in earlier days the holy water which came from heaven if consumed by anybody makes them immortal. The people who drink this Ámrit never die. After Langars everybody get together for some fun. In Delhi traditional dances like bhangra gidda and many more are performed.
For the music special dhol wala is called. The beats of the drum tempts everyone to dance. From the youngest to the eldest everyone dances and has fun to their best.
Then processions are taken out taken out in which all the people are dressed in colorful clothes and along with the dhol wala everybody is on the streets dancing and singing traditional Punjabi songs. As a way to express their happiness the drummer is paid really well.
As the day ends everybody goes home and have small gathering over their place respectively. This festival is celebrated on a large scale in Delhi. The capital shows a completely different face on this day. Being a part of this festival is a great feeling and one needs to experience it once in their lifetime.
