It is a typical Muslim structure with domes and hundreds of pillars. The mosque is built in yellow sandstone. The specialty of the mosque is that none of the domes are at the same height; each dome is different from the others.
The mosque is supported by 260 pillars which also support 15 magnificent domes. Jama Masjid took 13 year to be what it is right now. The effort put in building it is amazing and worth giving a look at. The mosque is lies opposite to the Red Fort, another cultural beauty of Delhi.
The courtyard built in the mosque good enough to occupy almost 20,000 people at a time. The tomb of Muhammad Ali Shah is also present in this Mosque. The tomb is accessible through the entrance which is situated in the east.
The architectural beauty in this mosque includes a courtyard where everybody prays built in total marble, the three arched entrance which were made for the royals gave entry into the royal square where they would watch the various processions taking place.
There is a certain dress code for people visiting the Mosque. Head should be covered and everybody is supposed to wear lungi. People should enter the mosque bare footed only. People of all religions can visit the mosque, but everyday from 12.30 to 2.00 nobody except the Muslims are allowed. During this time people from other religion are not allowed into the Mosque.
Even after 100 years Jama Masjid stands unaltered and attracting tourist from all over the world. Delhi is proud to own such a beauty and anyone visiting Delhi and not visiting Jama Masjid will regret doing so. Jama Masjid is something which cannot be missed while you visit Delhi. |
