The main entrance to the Red Fort is through the Lahori Gate or Chatta Chowk. A bazaar selling an array of paintings, jewellery, carpets and so on known as the Meena Bazaar is found here.
The other buildings on within the forts boundaries include the Hall of Public Audiences more famously known as the Diwan-I-Aam.
It is where the ruler would resolve the problems of the common people seated upon a marble pinnacle. A hall made of marble is where the King used to conduct private meetings is known as the Diwan-I-Khas or Hall of Private Audiences.
The world famous Peacock throne used to be situated at the center of this hall. The Palace of Colours or the Rang Mahal, where the Emperors wives and mistresses used to stay is also located here.
It is built up of a single piece of marble and has paintings, mirrors and pools to add to its attractiveness. The other prominent structure here is the Pearl Mosque, which was for the personal use of Aurangzeb, the great Mughal Emperor.
The Red Fort has been attacked twice but still remains standing as a testament to the grandeur of the Mughal era. There are various light and sound shows conducted here that are open to the public. A visit to the Red Fort always leaves a person awestruck due to its sheer brilliance. It makes an individual wish he could have been there in the past to see this imposing fort in all its glory.
